I am interested in people, and in how, through art, I can explore the ability or inability to encounter an “other.” To do so, I try to recognize how we affect one another through interpersonal relationships, taking systems of communication and exchange as a starting point. Recently, this has led me to research topics such as intersubjectivity, miscommunication, language, emotional and geographical distance, and culture.

I develop my practice through the creation of installations and relational objects. The design of my works often alludes to the act of encounter between viewers or translates forms of meeting based on systems of interaction. At the same time, I create participatory works that include third parties in the process of making the artwork, usually around voice and language.

These choices are motivated by a conception of art as a space for sharing—not from a functional perspective, but as a place where we can unfold ourselves openly in front of another. In other words, it is a space where, in a utopian and perhaps fanciful attempt, empathy can be exercised. I believe this exercise is fundamental for building non-individualistic and understanding spaces in a time of differences, groupings, polarization, and separation.

Me interesan las personas, y cómo, a través del arte puedo explorar la capacidad o incapacidad de encontrarnos con un “otro”. Para lo anterior, intento reconocer cómo nos afectamos mutuamente a través de las relaciones interpersonales, tomando como punto de partida sistemas de comunicación e intercambio. Últimamente, esto me ha llevado a investigar temas como la intersubjetividad, la incomunicación, el lenguaje, y la distancia emocional y geográfica, y la cultura.

Desarrollo mi práctica en la creación de instalaciones y objetos relacionales. El diseño de mis obras muchas veces alude a la acción de encuentro entre los espectadores, o traduce formas de encuentro basadas en sistemas de interacción. Al mismo tiempo, desarrollo obras participativas que incluyen a terceros en el proceso de creación de obras, generalmente en torno a la voz y el lenguaje.

Estas elecciones están motivadas por un pensamiento del arte como un espacio para compartir desde una perspectiva no funcional, sino que un lugar en que nos desplegamos abiertamente frente a un otro. En otras palabras, es un espacio donde se puede, en un intento utópico y fantasioso, ejercer la empatía. Este ejercicio, me parece fundamental para la construcción de espacios no individualistas y de comprensión en una época de diferencias, agrupación, polarización y separación.
